Sarténe
Photoshop
July 2005

Sarténe is my first serious attempt at matte painting. I have thought a lot about perpective and so on, but there may be some minor flaws left.
I shot all the photo reference myself at my holidays on Corsica. Man you feel stupid when you're taking photos of dirt, brick walls and garbage cans and everyone's looking at you, wondering what the heck you're doing. But I guess you have to suffer for your art?
It's completed before I had a chance to look at the new book from Ballistic, "d'Artist: Matte Painting", and before I recieved the awesome matte painting DVD with Dylan Cole from Gnomon Workshop. I've therefore tried to use my own techniques and ideas. I'm sure they're not the most time-efficient and non-destructive way to do it, but at least they got the job done.
I hope you enjoy the painting! I sure had a lot of fun making it
Any comments or critique would appreciated.
Best Regards,
Thomas
